XRef Usage & DTS Export to Torque!!!

Having now spent quite some time utilising the XRef system in Max and exporting to the Torque Engine… I have come up against a small glitch that you should maybe be aware of…

Firstly the good news… Materials do update automatically if you tick the checkbox under the modifier list… or for each item in the XRef Window.

Okay… so now the bad news!! With the standard Max 7 Torque Exporter…. any XRef’d model in a scene, will automatically export its material data into the DTS file. Even if the XRef’d model is not attached to the export node structure. It simply needs to be in the scene for it to export these materials.

So be warned… it can send your engine into a spin looking for textures, that don’t exist, in folders that don’t exist!!! I recently had it happen and it lengthened my load times by 31secs… simply looking for textures. :)
