rAge ‘08

So two weeks off the back of rAge ‘08!

As always its fun to wonder around the expo, see some of the new games coming out shortly, catch up with some old friends in the industry that you normally only bump into at rAge. Making new contacts and just seeing another perspective on the Gaming Industry in South Africa. Sitting on the Dev side you always find yourself being removed from the gamers themselves. Its good to be grounded and just realise why and who we make our games for. :)

rAge lacks the Game Dev side of gaming, so not many people showing much to do specifically with Game Dev. It spends its time looking at the new games, and the latest pc hardware and consoles. Its a pitty not more of the local Game Dev guys get involved, but the reason to that is simple. Game Dev isn’t a big business yet in SA, and having a stand on rAge is rather pricey. So what are the smaller Game Dev guys meant to do?! It certainly wouldn’t be worth having a separate Game Dev expo or conference…. not when you’re trying to grow Game Dev in SA… rAge is definitely the best place to show it because its well known and has an impressive foot count coming thru the doors. That’s what Game Dev needs, it needs to be in the public eye, not just in the eye of the people who know about it already!

So here’s looking to rAge ‘09… hopefully bigger, better and having more Game Dev guys!!
:D

  1. i dunno hey, the game.dev crew were kicking ass as always! The upstairs place was really really nice but i felt there was less walk in traffic. That aside, it was pretty big for us and we had an awesome time :)

  2. One game dev crew, stuck in the far corner behind the food area and upstairs… that’s removed.. That’s doing nothing for getting other people involved in the industry.. they need to on the floor with all the exhibitors, getting walk by traffic. There needs to be a true presence!! :D
