Epidemic

You work for the Center of Disease Control. A disease breaks out – and you have to stop it. You can place analysts and doctors, disinfect water, shut down water grids, and set up quarantined areas.

We have been writing a Postmortem/White paper about the development of Epidemic. It covers gameplay ideas, paper testing of the game, art pipelines for both the city and gui production and technical background info regarding the simulations. Keep an eye out for that, I will post a link as soon as we have it online.. :D

We have began brainstorming the idea of the user playing the disease itself, it has some great potential and we are definitely taking it further…. Check out the epidemic page for more info on that!!!
We also have began playing with using a true isometric view in Game Maker…. Originally, and by default, Game Makers ‘isometric’ is actually just a 90degree grid rotated 45degrees, which doesn’t make for true isometric views… Having modeled the buildings all in 3D and making true isometric renders this posed a problem which required scaling the tiles to fit a grid isometric system… We now programatically build the worlds which allows us place the grids where we want them… this we hope is going to allow us a fully true isometric view. This should save loads of time from my side and increase artwork fidelity!!! Yay!!!

We have began phase 2 on the development of Epidemic. We have decided to remain true to the original concept, but begin by improving what we have at the moment.
On the Epidemic page on GGE we have also posted a list of potential further development ideas. Would love to hear your thoughts on those…. :) so check it out!
